Converting Customers to More Responsible Alternatives

In 2022 we at Sandy Alexander are making a commitment to further ourselves as a green and sustainable organization within the world of print. In past years we have attempted to change our products and manufacturing capabilities specifically in our Wide & Grand Format division to this end. Every year we begin with a measurable goal and evaluate our progress in the form of our Continual Improvement Project (CIP) to develop, support, and integrate the company’s sustainability efforts. With incremental steps to improve our processes we have successfully accomplished our goals in 2016, 2017, and 2019.

This year, we have committed to the following:

Goal Statement

In 2022, Sandy Alexander aims to convert 10% of our styrene-based substrates purchases, compared to 2018, to an environmentally responsible alternative that is 100% recyclable.

To accomplish this goal, we are expanding our efforts across multiple departments, beginning at Sales. We hope to utilize our sales and client service personnel to promote and convert clients’ out-of-home projects from styrene to an environmentally responsible alternative.

To learn more about our Sustainable Initiatives or environmentally responsible suggestions on future projects, please contact Gene Palecco at [email protected] or call 973.470.8100.

Happy Earth Day 2021!

Let’s celebrate Earth Day together. As a leader in sustainable print for the last two decades, we want to help marketers make the right decisions when it comes to their graphic communications. These decisions include pivoting to sustainable print alternatives and increasing awareness in general environmental sustainability. We can work with our vendors to provide an array of traditional Offset, Digital, and Large Format sustainable print options.

For example, in December 2020 we held an information session about sustainable options and alternatives, specifically for Large Format print. We focused on green alternatives to current substrates being used in print marketing efforts, retail displays, rollouts, and brand environments. We’re proud to say that it has led to many fruitful conversations with our clients and the conversion of active projects to some of the suggested substrates. Here’s the recap blog of the Sustainability Webinar, and don’t forget to subscribe to us on YouTube!

But as an organization, we don’t want to stop there. Additionally, we have a commitment to our local communities, such as our communication with the NJDEP Air Quality, Energy and Sustainability which protects New Jersey’s air quality and evaluates, develops, and implements environmental practices across New Jersey, where our headquarters is located.

We are ready to assist your team with our expertise in sustainable print. Please feel free to reach out to your Sandy Alexander Representative, Gene Palecco at [email protected] or call our main line 973.470.8100.

Mohawk Maker Quarterly 16: Community https://sandyalexander.com/mohawk-maker-quarterly-16-community/ Thu, 30 Jan 2020 21:25:54 +0000 https://sandyalexander.com/?p=33477 The post Mohawk Maker Quarterly 16: Community appeared first on Sandy Alexander.

Our inclusion in the production of the Mohawk Maker Quarterly 16 fills us with pride & excitement, but perhaps not for the same reasons most of you who await its arrival every few months. Our enjoyment isn’t the opening of the newest edition or the reading of the text; it’s not the content, but like all marketers, it’s the challenge and creation of the finished product.

For us…

It’s the folding, not the folds.
It’s the cutting, not the cuts.
It’s putting the ink on that paper, not admiring it.

Chris & Caleb begin with a vision. They & their teams map out what so many of you love. They aspire to give you thought provoking & moving art that is tangible, and relevant to you. They design and curate with a hunger to explore the labyrinth of print…we simply help them navigate and execute at the highest level.

To align ourselves with some of the best creatives, it is a pleasure (and a thrill) for Sandy Alexander to produce the Mohawk Maker Quarterly Issue #16: Community. Like Chris, Caleb, & their teams suggest, we’ve reflected on & explored our Place within the creative community. Our Voice. What Time means to us. Upon this reflection we enter 2020 aiming to impact those we partner with the same way we worked with Chris, Mohawk, Caleb, & Hybrid Design…

  • By giving them a Place to experiment with their ideas…
  • By helping them share their Voice…
  • By helping their ideas stand the test of Time…

Get your copy of  “Community” here.

We at Sandy Alexander wish you a happy New Year and look forward to our community’s success in 2020. If you’d like to explore our world of graphic communications, please contact Gene Palecco at [email protected] or call our main line at 973-470-8100.

Like many of our partners pushing the boundaries of creative expression, our main goal is to create something memorable; something with impact. Nothing in print is more impactful than color. It shapes a printed piece, speaks to the consumer, and evokes emotion.

Color can portray your brand, your message, and often can speak to a consumer louder than the words that accompany it. Brands and campaigns can be given life with the right touch and the right choices in color, but most importantly, the right production of that color.

We’ve said it before – color is the key to branding.

Luckily, at Sandy Alexander we have the capable hands of the most profound color scientists in the industry, so well versed in color management that members of our team worked on the “Manhattan Project” that helped to create G7 certification in print. They work diligently to give that color “zing” and to consistently reproduce that color across various mediums and platforms your campaigns utilize.

They have tested our ability to print over several hundred substrates, not just paper, working in tandem with our cross-platform trained production coordinators to replicate your brand’s hard-earned image. Our leading color management position allows us to leverage our experience on metal, fabric, vinyl, window clings, and a variety of environmentally responsible materials used in brand rollouts. Our digital artists have honed their skills in image manipulation and technical retouching to form one of the most experienced teams in color profiling. What we print, they match on the screen; creating total brand consistency on any campaign no matter which medium is requested.

Artist Paul Gauguin once said, “Color! What a deep and mysterious language, the language of dreams.”

Our dream is to maximize the color in the world of print so we may speak to everyone that touches our work.

Exposing Designers to a New tool set for Color, Ink, and Paper

There is a reason that Sandy Alexander is continuously selected to print the inspirational and innovative Mohawk Maker Quarterlies by Mohawk Fine Paper. Each issue seeks to push the boundaries of creative expression with insightful editorial features, carefully considered design by Hybrid Design, and varied printing techniques on a diverse range of Mohawk paper.

The latest edition, No. 15 – Mohawk Maker Quarterly Issue #15: Materials – follows the quarterly newsletter’s consistently thoughtful designs and careful production. Introducing Mohawk’s beautiful new portfolio of Keaykolour papers (by Arjowiggins Creative Papers), the Mohawk & Hybrid team took full advantage of the flexible color palette. Utilizing a total of sixteen different papers, Mohawk provides three versions of the die-cut container, each paired and printed with bright match color inks. Opening each case reveals eight “objects” inside that demonstrate the power of material selection, bringing the written content to levels much higher than simple editorial features.

“Printing on colored paper does add a completely different twist to most projects. The beauty part of this piece is that not all of the color is designed to conceal the paper, it’s actually to use the paper as a component of color. Paper becomes part of the design more than it ever did before.”  – Larry Westlake, Executive Vice President Sandy Alexander

Mohawk came to our facility to film video about Issue #15: Materials. Take a moment to hear Sandy Alexander’s team discuss the print production of such an innovative piece, featuring interviews with Larry Westlake – Executive Vice President, Art Bush – Color Scientist, and Ana Bourdiel – Production Coordinator.

A big thank you to Mohawk Fine Paper for their commitment to Sandy Alexander in printing their industry leading Maker Quarterlies and for creating the images and video in this article. To read more about the Mohawk Makers Issues and to get your hands on a copy.
